2/15/2012 class CP2 @ SG

Let me start off by telling those of you that were not at class on Wednesday, that on Tuesday I was at China Phoenix! It looks fabulous! All the peg board is up and the free standing displays are in there, but everyone was frantically looking for the shelving ... so hopefully by now they have found it and the store is on it's way to being reassembled! We need an update!
If you have not signed up for Nancy's newsletter, do it now if you want to stay informed!
You can also check the blog for any updated information!

Now on to Wednesdays class, I have switched the projects, this week we will be doing this cascading card, really quite easy and so many possibilities!

Please make sure you include your scissors, bone folder and a pencil eraser in your regular class kit.

  • The following week Sue Rosenberg will be teaching while I am out of town,
she is bringing the samples this week, what a fun card!

  • Quick & Easy cards is this Saturday at Scraps Galore ... call 858 1080 to reserve your spot.

I am so ready for spring with all of these beautiful days we are having ... so today we are working with vellum and twinkling H2O's for this butterfly's wing, and a bit of stickles!
The scanner doesn't show the shimmer but its there ...

Today you will need your standard class kit, I did use Zig glue to attach the butterfly.

Blue Star Mothers

As promised here is the schedule for the year when the Blue Star Mothers will be packing for the deployed troops. I do need your donations approximately a week before the packing date to ensure they are picked up and delivered in time to the packing site.

Hand made cards do not have to be original creations, simply use all those cards you have received over the years and can't bear the thought of throwing away. Just cut the card front off, place on a new card back and include an envelope ... someone will love using these re purposed cards!
Here are the dates and any holiday they may be including ...
March 10 / Easter or Passover
June 2/ patriotic or 4th of July
September 29/ Halloween & Thanksgiving
November 17 Christmas and Hanukkah
Thank you to everyone who has supported this project over the years

Please note this is the last class until the new year. We will begin again on Wednesday January 5, and continue on Wednesdays until China Phoenix reopens. I did get the chance to visit with Nancy and she took me down to the store, there is still a lot of construction to be done and with the up coming holidays it may be a bit slower.
Will let you know as soon as I know when we will be back to Tuesdays!

This weeks card we're using one of the new Textured Impressions,
a combined effort between Hero Arts and Sizzix,
so easy to make a beautiful card, so many possibilities!

Just your regular class kit today,
if you are so inclined, I used rusty hinge, wild honey & brushed corduroy
on the background with a foam applicator.

Updates ... 11/27/2011

I was quite surprised when I found out that many of you had not received Nancy's email, just ask her to put you on her list and you will be able to stay up to date ... chinaphoenix2@aol.com

Here is the email that Nancy sent on 11/21.
Dear Stampers,
The morning of Wednesday, Nov 9th, I was awakened with a call that there was a fire upstairs at the store. I immediately dressed and drove down. 4th street was blocked off and the closest I was allowed to get was the parking lot at Samons. I was frantic about Binx, but not allowed to go in search of him. A fireman did find him and bring him out to me. Binx is looking good again and is still a very sweet cat in spite of the trauma.
The fire burned the upstairs that I have in the back of the building; it also extends over the back of the bakery.
The store has extensive smoke and water damage, as does the bakery. Partyline Florist and the antique store had a significant amount of smoke, but, fortunately, no fire or water damage. Cheryl has pictures on the blog if you'd like to check it out: www.chinaphoenix2.blogspot.com.
This has really renewed my faith in human nature. Everyone- policemen, firemen, investigators, insurance people, the restoration people, and you - my friends and customers, have all been empathetic, compassionate, helpful - just generally wonderful. Thank you.
The contractors hope to get started tomorrow; they have made CP2 a priority. The entire ceiling has to be pulled down and replaced, plus the walls need painting. I'm assured it will all be better than new. The firemen said that it was lucky that it was such an old building because it was so well built with concrete fire walls that prevented it spreading and very heavy beams that didn't burn all the way through!
I hope that I can reopen by the first of the year. BUT, I will not be sitting around eating bon-bons all the time!
We are continuing classes, using the community room at Harwood Methodist Church. While I have to suspend my Wednesday card classes, Scraps Galore has agreed to host our Tuesday ladies' Paper Play on Wednesdays at 10:30am for the duration (another example of the kindness I've been shown).
MARK DECEMBER 11th on your calendars. That afternoon from 1 until 5, we'll celebrate the introduction of the 2012 Hero Arts catalog at Partyline Florist, 4200 4th St. There will be refreshments, Make & Takes, and the opportunity to buy some of the new products. I hope to see you soon. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Nancy Y

I hope to see you all on the 11th, I'm hoping to get a sneak peak on line, so I will know what I'm ordering ... haha!

I spoke with Elaine yesterday and she sounds wonderful and she is at home! Sherry is staying with her until support is in place with home health aides. She said it would probably be a couple of weeks before she can come back to class, but misses you all and can't wait to return.

I also spoke with Nancy Bruce who has a case of the yiks, she has been down with it for more than a week now, but was able to get out of the house for a little bit on Friday, so she thinks she's on the mend. We hope so Nancy, and if not GO SEE THE DOCTOR! *Ü*

Then I spoke with Bill, Sammie's husband and she's not doing well. She has been in bed since before the holiday. Hospice is keeping her comfortable. Their son and daughter in law were able to make the trip from San Antonio for Thanksgiving, and I hope that was a comfort to both Bill & Sammie.

Finally, did you need a cup o joe to make it through this novel ...
I would like to have our annual holiday luncheon and card exchange on a Tuesday with the hope that those people who have conflicts with Wednesday can make it on Tuesday, after all we are like a family ... maybe Nancy Y can join us for once, wouldn't that be fun!
So please leave a comment, I'm just going to throw a date out there, if this doesn't work tell me what will and majority rules! Tuesday, December 20, remember leave a comment so I have them all in one place, thanks!
Off to make smoked turkey enchilada's ... our traditional leftovers meal ... see you soon.

11/23/2011 class @ CP2 (temporary location Scraps Galore)

Today's card is a result of reading Tim Holtz's blog a while back and the inability to find that post! So I racked my brain remembering we had done something similar quite some time ago! So this is the card we will be doing on Wednesday at Scraps Galore (until China Phoenix is open again) The technique is the card front, but with an added bonus of a gift card holder on the inside!
Once I decide who this is going to I will high light their age ...

For those of you that have been hanging out with me for some time now, here's the card I was talking about from April 2008 ...
For today's class along with your regular kit please bring
Strong adhesive (embossed paper need a little extra stick), foam tape,
and if you have it a foam blending tool and vintage photo/tea dye distress ink.
