Give me a NY blizzard any day!

OK, so I know it's Sunday and I should be posting this weeks sample, but I am in Wichita, Kansas and the sample is on my home computer. I cannot wait to get back to Albuquerque!! I do not plan on coming back anytime soon! Arrival was uneventful despite the warnings from everyone you spoke to, Kansas was in for some rough weather, lol! It was a beautiful sunny day when Evan picked me up from the airport. I had Saturday all planned out, to visit two local craft stores here. Saturday I woke up to overcast skies & wind. Turn on the TV and there are tornado warnings. Decided to scrap my plans to shop when they said that there was a 90% chance of a tornado hitting Wichita, I was staying right here on base. There was talk of cancelling the awards ceremony which is why I was here! So the day was spent watching & waiting. Fortunately our unit was a tornado safe shelter, in the bathroom. Of course the estimated arrival of the tornado kept changing. The commander decided we had time to hold the banquet which was downtown at the Hyatt. So several hundred people arrived in their mess dress uniforms and spouses in their finest. It was so weird being closed off from the world in one of the ballrooms, of course many people had their cell phones under the table keeping up on things. Colonel Mason began the proceedings by saying they were going to move quickly so everyone could get out of there which he did.
We drive back to base just as the rains begin and the sirens start blaring, get out of our party clothes and start packing everything. Fill the bathroom with essentials and are glued to the TV. It was amazing how they were tracking the eye of the tornado, and estimating when it would hit. Of course one minute it's heading directly towards the base, then it shifts and barely misses the base, then back on track for the base. You get the picture! Then the TV would go black and a message would state that the tornado is on base and to take cover. Then the news, that it shifted slightly. This went on for about an hour, the longest hour of my life!
Anyway, the tornado shifted slightly, did not hit base but was so close that the road leading to base was closed this morning. Now I hope our flight is able to take off, get me out of Kansas!
Well, the plan is to see you all Tuesday, will try to remember to post sample tomorrow, if I forget you will have to forgive me,
.

Good morning everyone ... another beautiful day in Albuquerque!
I'm almost finished with the cards for April 21st Quick and Easy class, so we may have two posts today!

On to Tuesday's class at CP2. As most of you know I love all things from the fabulous Mr. Holtz, aka Timbo to his friends, hehe ... and I have been taking his online class, which by the way is wonderful!
Of course I'm behind in the lessons, but that's the beauty of this is I have access forever, so as I work my way through the lessons on tags for future reference, I am also making a card for class.
This card combines two techniques from day 2 of Creative Chemistry 101 ...
Blended Distress/spritz & flick
and
Brushless Water coloring
So for today's class kit please include;
craft mat
foam & handles
vintage photo or tea dye
(also used ... festive berry, broken china, mustard seed, barn door, dried marigold & peeled paint)

April Birthdays
according to my records the only April birthday is Nancy Y on the 19th,
so we will celebrate on the 17th!
This gives you plenty of time to make a special card for a very special person!

Out of my comfort zone ...

Yesterday there was a surprise birthday party for Cheryl Valadez. So of course I had to make something with her being a fellow (and wildly talented ) paper artist!
Cheryl loves many things, one being Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead!
So out of my comfort zone!
Well my daughter came home munching on a chocolate bar and I glanced at the wrapper ...
I exclaimed where did you get that! She recovers from the shock of my outburst and replies a convenience store near school! Well I buy a few boxes (different sizes) and I send her off with one box in each size and my credit card and tell her to buy chocolates ... fill the boxes, make sure you get at least one of each flavor ...
So next I'm challenged with decorations, do a google search for images, not thrilled with the quality of the print. Sami says it could be my printer which I have no patience for. Borrow stamps, email Renee, she brings a basketful ... my mojo must be on vacation cus' nothing is happening. Then I realized there is one bar of chocolate that doesn't fit into the boxes ... the graphic that originally caught my eye!
So after much belaboring, I'm not used to having to work so hard to create, here is the finished project.

Way out of my comfort zone ...
well girlfriend, I hope you enjoy my meager attempt at embellishing, but more so I hope you enjoy the chocolates, which I happen to know you do love all things chocolate!
Hope your birthday is wonderful, enjoy your day!

3/27/2012 class @CP2

Renee asked for it so here you go a side step card!
(please ask if there is something you would like to do in class!)

Here's the one we did back in September 2010, the step was off to one side.
Today we will be doing a double side step card, a step on each side.
This is the closed view above and opened below.

Regular class kit including a black edger, pen or ink pad.
Also today we will celebrate the Mach birthdays featuring
Sue R., Jerri & Sylvia
snacks catered by the one and only Renee!

3/20/2012 class @CP2

Oh my, after such a beautiful week, the March winds have arrived! I'll be glad to stay home and play ... really any excuse works for me!

So for all you Vagabond owners, have you seen this?
What fun, let's get Albuquerque on the Sizzix map!

OK, you want to see this weeks card, so here we go ...
I just fell in love with these clown fish from a vendor at the convention ...
we will also be embossing acetate to go over the colored image, kinda cool in real life ...
on to the coloring!
I used good ol' sharpies, these are from one of those large sets from Sam's club, I used two shades of orange and yellow. So dig through your stash and bring your copics, tombows, sharpies ... what ever markers you have and you won't have to wait on my set!
In addition to your regular class kit please bring
(yup you guessed it)
markers and a black paint pen!

March Birthday Celebration
will be 3/27
featuring
Sue R.
Jerri O.
Sylvia

See you all Tuesday, enjoy the rest of you weekend.
Don't forget Tim's Creative Chemistry 101 starts this Monday, hope to see you there!

3/13/2012 class @CP2

Haha, I remembered to post this week ... my mind must be returning!
It was wonderful to see everyone at the rubber stamp convention, as I told my husband I needed to make a donation so the vendors keep coming back ... hope you donated also!
As always one of the best things is seeing those folks you haven't seen in a while, catching up and chatting is exhausting! It was fun!
On to Tuesday's card, the background is the technique we will be learning.
I was going for that aged patina look!
Along with you usual class kit include if you have it ...
Vintage Photo distress ink
foam and handle
foam tape
strong adhesive
sanding block
edge distresser or scissor

enjoy the rest of your weekend *Ü*

Sue Rosenberg will be teaching since I will be away with my hubby. I will see you all on the 28th! A great big thanks to Elizabeth at Scraps Galore for letting us use her workroom. She is getting all kinds of great stuff from CHA, so stop by check it out and say thanks for being the wonderful person she is!

Make sure you stop by China Pheonix and help Nancy clear out the old so she can bring in the new ... I know she has some great stuff ordered, so let's make some room on those shelves!

Here is Nancy's email ...
Stampers,
The contractors are almost finished at China Phoenix 2! This Saturday, Feb. 18, will be the start of the fire sale. All merchandise that was in the store in November will be on sale for 50% of the original sale price.
In most cases the products are fine; the packaging was smoked or soaked. This is the time to stock up.
On Saturday, we'll have a free make & take and just maybe a cookie or two!
The hours Saturday will be 10am until 4pm. Beginning next week, China Phoenix 2 will be open Tuesday thru Saturday from 10am until 4pm. The store will be closed Sundays and Mondays.
The Grand Re-Opening of CP2 will be Saturday, March 3. I'll be sending you more info as the day gets closer.
The Rubber Stamp Convention tickets are here and will be available starting Saturday. The tickets cost $5.00 and allow entry both days. The tickets are NOT included in the sale. New special orders-- Hero Arts, Impression Obsession, and Earth Arts are NOT included in the sale------ but that leaves a store-full that is on sale.
Come one, come all. Binx is doing wonderfully and thinks he'll wait until next week to make an appearance.
Binx and I want to express our gratitude to all of you who have called, come by, and helped during this very difficult time. It has made all the difference and given me a very real appreciation for the goodness to be found in humanity.
Love you, Nancy and Binx
