Crafting through the Coronavirus Week 2 Challenge

With spring right around the corner this week's theme is Things with Wings.
You can share anything you make this week even if it doesn't have wings.
Is anyone doing scrapbook pages, share those!
So I'm thinking butterflies, dragonflies, birds, bee's and fairy's right off the top of my head.
Look at your dies, stamps, scrapbook papers even gift wrap. If all else fails google images or troll through pinterest. Just have fun!
Here are two pieces I have made this week and one from Sara.

Have fun, be safe and stay well!

Crafting through the Coronavirus Week 1 Challenge results

Here are the cards that were shared this week.
Many clever ways to create without stamps in some cases.
Scrapbook paper, images from the internet, general images used to create Easter cards,
die cuts, printing sentiments with the computer, paper piecing.
Thank you for sharing.
Stay tuned I will reveal a new challenge tomorrow!

Crafting through the Coronavirus Week 1 Challenge

Here we go the first challenge. No pressure if you just want to share what you've made that's great!
Remember to hit reply all to share with the group!
Since Easter and Passover are around the corner, let's make either one or both, your choice!
Here's my Easter card, time to work on Passover.
I used a Paula Best stamp with Majestic Blue Versafine ink.
Background Alcohol inks and white heat embossed stamp.
Paula Best & AI (5).jpg
If you don't have any stamps to fit this category, find some springtime paper and use that.
Google free images and print them.
Here I googled images of matzoh and printed multiples of them on cardstock,
now to make a Passover card! I'll post the end result
Matzoh.jpg
Yes, most of my cards will be class samples (minus the sentiments on this one) for when we resume classes.
Have fun!

Crafting through the Coronavirus

Hello all my crafty friends near and far.
I thought it would be fun if I posted a weekly card challenge.
No stress if you just want to look at what our friends are doing that's fine.
If you want to participate every week or just some weeks that's fine too.
Just a little encouragement to get into your craft supplies and play.
If you don't like the theme I chose, just post a card that you made.
I will send out a weekly email with a challenge.
I can't figure out how you can post to the blog so it will have to be via email, sorry.
Just hit reply all and add your photo, if it's a technique or special info about the card feel free to include that as well. Find a favorite blog or YouTube of something crafty that you find informative, share that. Even though we are distancing ourselves physically, let's not isolate ourselves artistically.
Know someone who would enjoy this, feel free to invite them to play.
I will send out the first challenge tomorrow 3/19 and each Thursday following.
Let's get inky and use our stuff and keep in touch.

Classes at North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center

Hello all, I was hoping to continue class for another couple of weeks but I think it's prudent to suspend classes in such a public facility. There are two links below that you may be interested in reading. I have also included some information taken from the city web site. While many of us do need our weekly craft fix to assist our mental health I can't really in good conscience classify it as an essential service.
Please email me that you have received the information that class will be on hold until we get the all clear from the Coronavirus, hopefully sooner than later.

If any of you need assistance for anything, let me know and I would be glad to help any of you.
Stay healthy my friends!

Senior Affairs

The City encourages seniors who can stay home to do so. However, many seniors in the community need a place to receive services and meals.

Recreation & Fitness

  • Senior, Multigenerational and 50+ Fitness Centers remain open for seniors who need them for services including meals. However, all events at these centers have been canceled or postponed. Those events include: Bingo, flea markets, dances, and special events.
  • Additionally, many smaller events and activities at Senior Affairs are volunteer-led and some of those organizations and individuals have elected to postpone or cancel, including Silver Horizons Food Pantry. Seniors are encouraged to contact their Senior Center or group representative to check the status of an activity.

Tax Preparation Services

  • Most Senior Affairs Centers are still honoring tax appointments; however, walk-in tax preparation at Barelas Senior Center provided by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, has been postponed until at least April 6, due to a volunteer shortage.

Transportation

Transportation, Care Coordination and the Senior Information Line (505) 764-6400 are all operating as usual.

3/19/2020 Thursday's @ NDB

This is the email I received from Rubber Stamp Events, just FYI.
Albuquerque Rubber Stamp Show - Postponed!
We have been notified by the New Mexico State Fairgrounds that due to the Coronavirus, all the shows scheduled for this weekend at their facility have been cancelled. Sadly that includes ours scheduled to be in the creative arts building.
Because of that, we have postponed the show until later this year. We will let everyone know the date as soon as we receive confirmation.
If you would like your money back for any ticket purchases, please send me your tickets and I’ll be glad to give you a refund. If you’d like to hold your ticket to use later, that would be fine.
If you purchased it at a store, you can still send it in to me and I’ll refund your purchase.
All cards sent in for the contests will be held over for the show later.
Again, let me be clear – this cancellation was not our idea and I’m very sorry for any inconvenience.
Any questions, please email me at barbara@rubberstampevents.com

As I said today I will email you if class is cancelled due to the facility being closed,
otherwise I will continue teaching for those who would like to attend class.
I would hope that all of us will continue to use good judgement, if your sick stay home.
I'm sure if they close it will be published in all forms of media or you can call
the center directly (505) 764-6475
Here's hoping everyone stays well!

On to the fun stuff ...
Today's card is a technique called Photo Oxide.
We will be using photo paper and distress oxides.
I tried several color combinations.
blueprint sketch, pine needles, mermaid lagoon & peacock feathers

carved Pumpkin, ripe persimmons, picked raspberry & rusty hinge

mustard seed, picked raspberry, candied apple & seedless preserves

Please bring your basic class kit
including
non stick craft mat
liquid glue
tweezers
spray bottle with water
Distress oxides 2-4 colors that work together (see above)
baby wipes
To color the hummers I used
distress ink and foam blenders
picked raspberry, mowed lawn & peacock feathers
scrap paper to mask the hummers

Last but not least we will celebrate Sue R. birthday next week 3/26

Whew, I think that's all!
Have a great week and I'll see you soon,
Susan *Ü*
